Superintendent's Award of Excellence

Superintendent Dr. Jacob A. Chávez presented the Superintendent's Award of Excellence to
the Sunset School staff

At the Governing Board meeting on September 10, 2014, the Sunset School staff was honored with the Superintendent's Award of Excellence.  As one of two schools in the District to receive an "A" rating from the Arizona Department of Education for the third straight year, Sunset School staff is very deserving of this award.  Their very proud principal Kristi Wells stated, "It was only five short years ago that the students at Sunset Elementary School had not made AYP for several years and the school was well into Arizona's School Improvement system.  The staff at Sunset knew that our students deserved, and could do better and thus we set out on a journey to ensure the students had options. Cartwright District Receives a "B" from AZ Department of Education
For the third straight year, Cartwright School District received a "B" rating from the Arizona Department of Education. We are very proud of our "B" but we will continue striving for an "A".  Once again, our students outperformed students in neighboring schools and districts.  Cartwright students, parents, and staff are to be commended for these outstanding academic achievement gains.

We are particularly proud of Sunset and Heatherbrae schools for receiving "A" ratings for the third year in a row.  Additionally, of the 1,676 schools in the State of Arizona, Sunset School is ranked #16.  Congratulations to all students, staff members, and families of Sunset and Heatherbrae. Heatherbrae and Sunset were honored at the August 27th Governing Board meeting for being "A" schools.

L to R. Governing Board President Steve Gallardo, Heatherbrae Asst. Principal Julie Case,
Heatherbrae Principal Eva Stevens, Sunset Principal Kristi Wells, Superintendent Dr. Jacob A.
