Peralta School Named an A+ School

Congratulations to Peralta Elementary School for being named an A+ school by the Arizona Educational Foundation. On Thursday, May 16th, Peralta held a celebration for staff, students and their families.

To receive A+ distinction, schools must submit a written application that requires many hours to complete. The application requires schools to show proof of parent and community involvement, a description of the current programs and practices, demographic information, along with the principal’s vision and commitment to excellence. Winning schools must demonstrate sustained high achievement or significant improvement. Those schools chosen for A+ distinction are recognized for their superior ability to meet the needs of their student populations. Schools designated as A+ retain their status for three years and then they may reapply for the A+ award.

Congratulations to the students, staff and families of Peralta School for being named an A+ school!

Telling Cartwright's Story

To read previous Cartwright District stories, click HERE.
We want to hear examples of Cartwright District’s success stories about current and former students, current and former staff members, programs etc. We know that many of our former students are now employees of the District. We also know that many former students have gone on to achieve great things in their lives. We want to hear those stories. Please submit these examples of “Cartwright’s Story” to Meri Simmons, Community Relations Director.

We're Proud...

At the Governing Board Meeting on May 22, 2013, Aiden Kirkwood, 4th Grade student at Davidson Elementary School, received the Superintendent’s Award of Excellence. Aiden was nominated for this honor for demonstrating exceptional leadership. His nomination states, “Aiden was nominated for the Superintendent’s Award of Excellence by his Assistant Principal Sarah Dugan for going above and beyond to make a new student feel welcome at Davidson School. After overhearing a new student in the hallway struggling to leave his mother and enter the classroom, Aiden was determined to make this student feel welcome on our campus and in his classrooms. He introduced himself to the student and helped him calm down and feel (read more)

Zero Hour students from Atkinson Middle School, Borman and Cartwright Schools received the Superintendent's Award of Excellence from Dr. Jacob A. Chávez, Superintendent and Governing Board President Steve Gallardo.

The latest recipients of the Superintendent’s Award of Excellence are our 8th grade students from Atkinson, Borman, Cartwright, Castro, Downs, Desert Sands, Estrella and Castro enrolled in the Zero Hour program. We currently have 130 8th grade students enrolled in high school in the Zero Hour class of Algebra I. These students attend class at Maryvale or Trevor Browne High schools and are earning a high school credit in math and advancing their math skills. Students who are part of the class at Maryvale attend class from
6:40 -7:35 AM Monday through Friday. Those attending class at Trevor Browne attend from 7:00-7:55 AM Monday-Friday. In order for our students to participate, buses begin picking up students at 6:00 AM. After attending their morning class at high school, our students are taken to their home school where they attend their regular classes. These students are to be commended for their hard work, their time, and their commitment to improving their skills in math. They have demonstrated tremendous responsibility by making sure they are in their class on time every day.
