At the Governing Board meeting on February 26, 2014, we honored Jane Camp and her dog Brogan with the Superintendent’s Award of Excellence. Jane and Brogan were nominated for this award by Deby Valadez, Principal at Palm Lane School. Her nomination states, “Jane has a true love for reading and wants to instill that love to our students. Jane and Brogan started giving to Cartwright School District over five years ago when I was the principal at Holiday Park School. Recently, I received a phone call at Palm Lane and with great surprise it was Jane on the other end saying ‘I found you’. Jane asked if she and Brogan could come over to Palm Lane and give every child a book. I explained to Jane that our school had almost 1,000 students but that didn’t faze her one bit. Community Bike and Safety Event
On Saturday, March 8, 2014, Cartwright School District and the City of Phoenix hosted a Community Bike and Safety Event at John F. Long School. Over 200 free bike helmets were given away. Additionally, one lucky student from John F. Long School won a brand new bike. Thank you to Don Cross of the City of Phoenix, the Phoenix Police Department, and the Phoenix Fire Department for making this a fun event for children. The Phoenix Police Department conducted a bike rodeo and bike races which were enjoyed by all. Casey Newman, Assistant Principal at Palm Lane School, provided children and adults with some healthy and fun opportunities to hula hoop and jump rope. The Food Services Department was on hand to distribute apples and information about healthy eating. We also provided parents with information about the upcoming pre-kindergarten workshops and open enrollment. Thank you to the administrators and teachers from Downs, Long, Spitalny, Harris, Palm Lane, Holiday Park, Sunset, and Atkinson who were on hand to help make the day fun for all. (read more)

Pre-Kindergarten Parent/Child Workshops
Cartwright School District is offering workshops for all parents of pre-kindergarten age children. The workshop will provide information and activities to help prepare children for a successful school experience. Please bring your pre-kindergarten child (ages 3 to 6) with you as they will participate in hands-on activities and receive an activity packet.
